Dentists for nervous patients in Essex
There are very few people who feel completely relaxed when visiting the dentist, whether this is our dentist in Essex or elsewhere. Some may feel a little anxious, some frightened, but others may be so afraid that they only visit the dentist when the pain in their teeth becomes unbearable. Fear of dentistry can turn into a vicious circle as people avoid attending routine check-ups thereby allowing problems to develop until the point when they are in such desperate pain that a visit to the dentist becomes essential.
We appreciate that not everyone loves their dental appointments. But here are some of our tips on how to make the process a little bit easier:
- Ask as many questions as you need to – our dental team are more than happy to answer any questions and ease your concerns.
- Listen to music – if you need to put your earphones in and zone out while we work, just let us know.
- Bring a friend – if you need a familiar face to support you during treatment, just give us a call and we’ll facilitate room for you.
- Enquire about sedation -There are also circumstances in which patients, who happily tolerate dental treatment fully awake, may benefit from dental sedation Essex eg, the removal of impacted wisdom teeth.
The Solution – Relax Through Your Treatment with Dental Sedation Essex
Sedation is a technique that allows people who are afraid of visiting the dentist or who are undergoing more difficult dental techniques to relax to such a degree that they are able to receive all necessary treatment. Being sedated just enough to ensure that you are unaware of the treatment is rather like drifting off into a dream-like state. Recovery following the completion of treatment is typically swift and problem free.
Complete Comfort
Sedation dentistry is unique in that it allows you to fully relax through your treatment even though you are sufficiently conscious to be able to co-operate with the dentist throughout your appointment.
As you are completely at ease and comfortable during your appointment, our team are able to complete more treatment in any one visit than is usual, thereby reducing the number of visits needed to complete your course of treatment.
Our practices are equipped with all necessary monitoring equipment to ensure your safety throughout the procedure. During the entire treatment appointment, you will be closely monitored by our highly trained team of professionals who have extensive experience in this specialised field.
Having been involved with the treatment of nervous patients for many years we know that sedation is the proven way to remove the stress that many people associate with dentistry. Dental Sedation in Essex can be offered for the full range of dental procedures including oral surgery and tooth extractions. However, should you have any concerns or worries regarding any aspects of your care, please do not hesitate to contact the practice.

Sedation Dentist Essex FAQs
Are sedation and anaesthesia the same?
While sedation and anaesthesia both involve administering drugs to alter a patient’s level of consciousness, they don’t have the same effects.
Sedation is a technique used to reduce anxiety. Under sedation, the patient remains awake but feels relaxed and may not remember the procedure.
On the other hand, anaesthesia is used to block pain and other sensations, which can be general or Local. The patient is unconscious with general anaesthesia and doesn’t feel or remember the procedure. Local anaesthesia numbs only a specific body part, like an area of the mouth or tooth, while the patient remains awake.
If you have any questions regarding sedation during dental procedures, send them to [email protected] and we’ll get back to you with more information as soon as possible.
What sedation do dentists use?
While sedation and anaesthesia both involve administering drugs to alter a patient’s level of consciousness, they don’t have the same effects.
There are a few sedation techniques available here at Highland View. The one provided depends on the patient and the sedationist providing the treatment.
The possible options include:
Conscious intravenous (IV) sedation: Administered directly into the bloodstream through a vein, this sedation method offers a deeper relaxation level. Patients are awake but may not remember the procedure.
General anaesthesia: Renders the patient completely unconscious. It’s usually reserved for extensive surgeries or patients with extreme anxiety. General anaesthesia is only available in a hospital.
The type you require will be discussed during your consultation. To book an appointment with one of our Highly trained sedation team, contact us today.
