What is Invisalign?
Invisalign® is a popular type of orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear tray aligners to straighten teeth discreetly. The number of aligners you will need depends on how much dental work is required.
Unlike traditional braces that have unsightly metal wires and brackets, each aligner applies a small amount of pressure to your teeth, gradually moving them into the desired position.
The aligners will need to be replaced every two weeks, and each one will feel slightly different as it’s designed to continue shifting your teeth.
For the best results, Invisalign braces must be worn at least 20-22 hours per day. However, they can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.
Who is an ideal candidate for Invisalign?

Of course, we always recommend that you arrange an appointment with our clinicians so we can assess your case individually and provide a custom treatment plan.
Key benefits of Invisalign
If you’re unsure whether having Invisalign in Essex is the right move for you and your teeth, then it’s worth taking a look at the many benefits on offer before you make your decision:
- They’re almost invisible – with no wires or brackets, nobody will know that you’re wearing braces with clear aligners.
- They’re removable – you can take your trays out for special occasions and eat, drink, and maintain an effective oral hygiene routine (by brushing and flossing normally).
- You can eat what you want – because they are removable, nothing will get caught up in the brace so you can continue to enjoy the foods you like, guilt-free.
- They won’t damage your teeth – made from a patented thermoplastic, Invisalign doesn’t involve metal that can cause mouth irritation.
- They’re comfortable – the aligners are trimmed to suit your gum line for maximum comfort. There’s no painful tightening of wires needed, you just swap to new trays every fortnight.
Treatment is predictable – it’s the only orthodontic treatment that allows you to picture your smile before you start.

How long does Invisalign take?
Traditionally, orthodontic treatments like braces have taken several years to work. However, the results of Invisalign technology can start to show within a matter of weeks, with some people completing treatment in as little as 12 months.
That being said, the time it takes for Invisalign treatment to be completed does depend on how much movement is required. Your orthodontist will be able to give you a clearer idea of how long your treatment will take during your initial consultation.
Can Invisalign aligners be removed?
Yes! Unlike normal fixed braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed whenever you want, making it much easier to maintain good hygiene, eat and drink. It’s important to note however, that regularly removing your aligners will have an impact on the final result. You should therefore refrain from taking them out unless you are eating or brushing your teeth.
How do I take care of my Invisalign?
For the most part, your aligners will be very easy to take care of. The most important thing is that they are being cleaned daily, and you can do this by brushing them with your toothbrush and toothpaste, then rinsing thoroughly.
You should never use hot or boiling water to clean your aligners as this could warp the plastic.
I’ve had braces in the past, can I still get Invisalign?
Yes. Many adults have had braces fitted during their child or teenage years, however over time the teeth often shift and your smile can become less straight as a result. In this case, you may want to opt for Invisalign to get your smile looking straighter again.
